Apple Crisp Crescent Bars is a solar cooking recipe. This week I was looking at a couple of Granny Smith apples on my kitchen counter and thinking about apple pie. But having no time to put a pie together, Apple Crisp Crescent Bars was a nice alternative. And the best part is, the ingredients would be easy to take along with you to the tailgate party, or the outdoor camp.
APPLE CRISP CRESCENT BARS
- 4 c. (4 med.) peeled, thinly sliced apples
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 8 oz. can Pillsbury quick crescent dinner rolls
- 1 tbsp. butter
TOPPING:
- 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 3/4 c. rolled oats
- 1/3 c. flour
- 1/4 c. butter, softened
- 2 tsp. vanilla
Preheat solar oven.
In a large bowl; combine first 4 ingredients. Separate crescent dough into 2 large rectangles. Place rectangle in ungreased pan. Gently press dough to cover bottom of pan; seal perforations. Spoon apple mixture over dough. Dot with butter. In medium bowl combine topping ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle over apple mixture. Bake uncovered until apples are done.
The time it takes to bake in a solar oven depends on the type of oven you are using, the weather, and how focused the oven is to the sun. My bars baked about 1 1/2 hours at about 325 degrees. See How Long Does it Take to Cook in a Solar Oven.
