It’s party time. Here are 3 recipes for bacon wrapped appetizers for the tailgate party, the camp out, or the beach. These little bite size tidbits would also be great for school or scout groups learning about solar cooking. Also, they would be great to show off at demonstrations and presentations. So let’s make some bacon wrapped appetizers in the solar oven.
3 Recipes for Bacon Wrapped Appetizers
Bacon Wrapped Olives
- bacon slices cut into thirds
- large pimento stuffed olives
Wrap the bacon slices around the olives and secure with a toothpick if needed.
Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers

Remove stems from jalapeño’s and cut in half longways. Clean the seeds out from the inside of the peppers. Cut the Monterrey Jack cheese into short strips. Fill the peppers with the cheese. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on the top. Wrap the bacon slices around the peppers. Secure with a toothpick if needed.
Bacon Wrapped Little Smokies
- Little Smokies sausages
- bacon slices cut into thirds
- brown sugar
Wrap the bacon slices around the little smokies and secure with a toothpick if needed. Roll the bacon wrapped smokies in brown sugar. Sprinkle any remaining brown sugar on top of the sausages.
Pre-heat the solar oven while preparing the appetizers. Place the appetizers into the solar oven. Cook until the bacon is done, about 2 – 2.5 hours. That’s it. You’re done. Wasn’t that easy? Enjoy your bacon wrapped appetizers.

You’re right! What a great demo idea. But, since my Midtown Market hours are only from 8am till noon, I think I’d precook the bacon the day before to medium, where they’re still soft enough to wrap because the market would be over before I could serve any. No matter what I try, the oven just doesn’t really start heating up until at least 9:30 a.m., staying at around 160 degrees until then. Now, at home, I do use that temperature for dehydrating veggies etc., for early morning solar cooking. But, now I know what to do for the next demo. Thanks for sharing another great idea…
