Yesterday, we celebrated Earth Day with the Great Solar Cookout 2014. The event was held on the campus of Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona. We were actually an exhibition event taking place on the sidelines of a soccer tournament. It was an exciting day because there were a lot of people, both soccer players and fans, who stopped by to sample the tasty treats coming out of the ovens. Solar chefs set up about 12 solar ovens. I took 2 ovens, a Sport and a Sunflair.. In addition, there were several Global Sun Ovens, and several of the new American Sun Ovens, another SOS Sport, a parabolic, and even a Tulsi sun oven. The day started off with a breeze and a slight hazy overcast, so the ovens were slow to warm up. But the haze burned off, the wind stopped, and by mid morning all of the ovens were cooking. We baked cakes and muffins and potatoes and hot dogs and cornbread, and cheese quesadillas were prepared on the Parabolic Solar Cooker . It was a really great day of fun. A BIG thanks to Dave for arranging it again this year. Next year we hope that you will come out to join us. Here are a few pictures of the event.
