Solar baked bacon is an easy way to make bacon. This is a solar cooking recipe.
For many years, I cooked bacon on the stovetop in a frying pan, just like my mother taught me. Then along came microwave ovens and I jumped on the microwaved bacon bandwagon. Microwaving was great for just a few pieces, but took much too long if cooking for a crowd. So I discovered baking bacon in my oven. And that is how I cooked bacon until I discovered solar cooking. Now I pre-cook my bacon, and then freeze it. When needed, I pull out a few slices and throw them into a hot pan or the microwave to finish up.
How to make bacon in a solar oven
I am using the Solavore Sport Oven.
Solar Baked Bacon
Place the bacon on a rack in a pan to catch the drippings. Place into a pre-heated solar oven. Bake for about an hour for partially cooked bacon or longer for crispy bacon.
Wasn’t that easy? Partially cooked bacon is great for freezing because it will finish cooking when you heat it up. Great for a quick breakfast and the grease is already cooked out. I also use partially cooked bacon in some of my recipes. Again, it will finish cooking in the dish and it has just enough grease left to give it a bacon flavor. I cook the bacon crispy if I want to crumble it for toppings, make a BLT sandwich, or to go with breakfast without the need to recook – just a few seconds in the microwave to heat.
Solar baked bacon is great for camping. Cook the bacon during the day when the oven is free. Crumble it up. And in the morning all you need to do is throw it into your eggs for a quick egg scramble.
