Homemade Solar Baked Brownies are a classic treat that almost everyone loves. It’s easy to buy a boxed mix, stir it up, pop it in the oven, and have hot, homemade brownies in half an hour. But it is also very easy to stir up the brownies from scratch. Most of the ingredients are already in your kitchen. So on a hot summer day, try this recipe. You’ll surprise everyone with a delicious dessert. And the best thing is that you will not have heated up your kitchen.
Homemade Solar Baked Brownies
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup walnut or pecan pieces (opt)
Pre-heat the solar oven while mixing the ingredients. (Be sure your brownie pan fits in your oven. Otherwise, you may need to adjust this recipe for the size of your pan)
Melt the butter or margarine in the solar oven. When melted, add the other ingredients and mix well. Bake in heated solar oven about 1 1/2 hours or until pick comes out clean.
The amount of time needed to bake the brownies will vary depending on the type of solar oven, and how hot the oven gets. To learn more, read How Long Does it Take to Cook in a Solar Oven.
(For regular oven, bake at 350 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes in a 9 x 13 inch greased pan).
I usually bake my brownies in the Solavore Sport solar cooker because the pan fits better. I place a couple of canning jar rings in the bottom of the Sport to raise it up off of the floor of the cooker. This allows the heat to circulate with the added benefit of allowing my pan to fit better in the cooker. You can read more about the Sport here.

Hello Kayla, I have been solar cooking and writing this blog since 2008. This post on Brownies was published during the early years of this blog. It was posted in July 2011. But the Brownies are just as good now as they were then. Enjoy. Thank you for stopping by, Merry

To make things go faster, this is an ideal recipe to use for stacking pans. Gonna try this for the Midtown Market and see what develops. Worst comes to worst, I’ve got a lot of brownies to enjoy! Thanks for sharing the recipe! Come visit when you can.

I agree that using stacking pans is great. I do it often not only with brownies, but also with cookies. Stacking pans definitely maximizes the space in the oven. Hope you have a successful day at the Market this week.
